Sensitiewe kwessies in die werksplek / Sensitive issues in the work place

More kyk ons hierna:
Die rol van agtergrond, lewenservaring, kultuur en ander diversiteitselemente.

Hoe kommunikeer ons ook oor daardie sensitiewe kwessies, met die nodige respek en empatie, sonder om op mekaar se tone te trap?

Hoofstuk 7 - Verhoudings in die Werksplek.

Elke Dinsdag klim ons In Mekaar Se Skoene op RSG, iewers tussen 09h00 & 10h00, tussen 100 & 104 fm.

Every Tuesday we get into the shoes of others on Afrikaans radio station: RSG, somewhere between 09h00 & 10h00, between 100 & 104 fm.
Elke week fokus ons op 'n ander kwessie en kyk na maniere waarop dit beter hanteer of opgelos kan word, deur empatie in gedagte te hou.

................................................

Due to a listener's question via text message, we'll be visiting the workplace again tomorrow morning.

The problem:
This listener wanted to know how they could deal with a colleague who regularly crosses the boundry of her personal space.  I got the impression that there is a cultural difference as well, that seems to contribute to the inability to communicate openly and honestly.

People often refuse to communicate over such sensitive issues, because they fear that the situation might be worsened.  This may lead to you avoiding the other party altogether.

What is the role of management in such a situation?  Management need to be involved with creating a workplace environment where people are free to talk about such sensitive issues with respect and empathy.  Neglecting this, may lead to employees feeling unhappy and this may have a negative effect on their overall productivity.

Tomorrow morning I'll focus on the following
The role of background, culture, life experiences and other elements of diversity.

I'll also look at how to communicate over such sensitive issues with respect and empathy.

Every week we focus on a different issue or relationship challenge and look at how it can be resolved with empathy.

What is your empathy- or relationship challenge?
Do you have a relationship challenge and are wondering how you could resolve it with empathy?  If yes, then send and email to Martelize brink@rsg.co.za  or send a text message to the RSG studio, to 33343.

We may be focusing on your challenge next time.  You can stay anonymous.

Text messages are charged at R1, 50 per message.

Youngsters making it happen for themselves

Being one of the speakers at the Queens of Media Event, hosted by- and for students at Damelin, was indeed a proud moment for me.  A wonderful event, organised by Jarvas Mahlangu and his team.

If all the youth, could be as pro-active as these youngsters, whom I was privileged to meet, then there is hope to build a wonderful country.

The Speakers at the event

From left to right:

Tumelo Mothotoane, Neo Ntsoma, Andeline Williams-Pretorius and Ntombikayise Phiri.

It was wonderful to be one of the speakers, together with radio presenters and photo journalist.  This is all because of my programme: Grow Your Personal Brand or Business By Getting Great Publicity.  What a winner, this programme of mine?

Click this link to read my article with the same title for what I focus on when presenting this fantastic programme:

Andeline on stage presenting her talk.

I was deeply touched when I became aware of the objective of the event.  Students realising that they have to see what they could do for themselves to make sure that they are better equipped for the job-market.  To learn skills to ensure that they are able to do something else, while waiting to get the job that they studied for.

Some of the students, listening to my talk.

These students are speaking my language.  I am very excited about our youth and about these students and all others taking such initiative, because when I was their age, I was still struggling with a crippling lack of self-esteem and lack of assertiveness.  And here they are...doing such fantastic work.  How fabulous is that.  I wish them the best, because they deserve it.

Earlier this year, after graduating myself, I wrote a blog post about the new graduate, about how, when they struggle to find employment, how they are unable to re-invent themselves.  You can see this blog post further down, titled:
"You are a new graduate; now what?"

Women of Substance Conference and more wonderful news

Dear Visitors to - and Readers of my Blog,

Good day.

It certainly feels as if I have been neglecting you - no blog posts for a number of weeks.  I do apologise.

I have been very busy lately, laying foundations and working hard at building my career.  It is wonderful when one is able to see how things materialise.
When I grow, I am able to provide an even better service.
After my interview on SAFM last week Thursday, I was booked to speak at a wonderful conference yesterday, Women of Substance, hosted by Mamas & Papas Magazine. Wonderful work that they are doing beyond the beautiful magazine and television show.

See what great publicity can do for you?

This is why I am so passionate about presenting my programme: Grow your personal brand or business by getting great publicity.
Anyone who wishes to be differentiated from the crowd by presenting themselves as an expert in their field or the small business owner should learn how to do this. Should you have enquiries about this programme, do contact me - details below.

Back to the conference...
The Women of Substance Conference was attended by 450 women.  I was proud to be involved and am inspired by the great work Mamas & Papas magazine does, beyond the magazine and television show.

My topic: Wolf At The Back Door Syndrome.  Please click this link to read my complete article on this phenomenon:
http://ezinearticles.com/?The-Top-Seven-Indications-That-You-Are-Suffering-From-Wolf-at-the-Back-Door-Syndrome&id=7212373

I gladly share some of the conference images with you.  See further down.

Something else that I've been working on, is my event, coming up in October: The Wellness & Networking Event For Women.  This is an annual event and we focus on all aspects of women's well-being.

Our speakers include experts in the following arena's:
Financial well-being.
Legal well-being (For this year our lawyer specialises in civil matters).
Emotional / Psychological well-being - (For this year, our Psychologist is a regular expert on 3Talk.

We also have a medical expert, who'll be doing voluntary blood pressure checks, to mention a few of our focus areas.
Yes, as women, we are so busy and we are often the last person on our list of priorities.  At this event, you are expected to sit back, relax and totally think of yourself.

Products for our goodie bags are also starting to arrive.  Wonderful.

Yesterday's Women Of substance Conference

Yesterday, just before I left home.

At the conference, inside the beautifully made-up room.

The beautiful conference room - prepared to host 450 guests.

Andeline & Nawaal, Founder and Editor in Chief at Mamas & Papas magazine.  Nawaal gave a fantastic talk about women in the work place.

Delegates are starting to take their seats.

Taking a seat, early morning, after familiarising myself with the technical stuff.

 South Africa's Most Inspirational Women

This glossy-page coffee table book, that I, together with twenty-nine other women are featured in, will be available by mid September 2012. It is published by African Innovations.

My image - the last one in the second row (horizontal).  It is an honour to be featured among so many wonderful women, leaders in various industries.

Dreams do come true...

How far I have come, since the dusty streets of Urbanville in George, Southern Cape?  I work hard to honour the wonderful memory of my mother, a domestic worker who had to raise seven children by herself after my father left.

I don't know how she did it.  What a strong woman she was?  A woman who possessed great wisdom and resilience.  I feel honoured to have inherited a little of that kind of strength.

Contact Lonwabo Jabavu with your enquiries or if you would like to order your copy - a collectors item indeed.
